On June 13, the first sitting of the State Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Occupied Territories of the Artsakh Republic was held chaired by State Minister Artak Beglaryan. The State Council established by the decree of the Artsakh Republic President includes the Human Rights Defender of the Artsakh Republic, relevant representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, as well as representatives of the authorized bodies of the Republic of Armenia who participated in the session online. The council was formed after the war due to the need to coordinate the protection of the cultural heritage of the occupied territories of the Artsakh Republic, to unite the efforts of the state bodies and expert circles of the two Armenian states. "One of the functions of the Council is to monitor and record the encroachments and crimes against our cultural heritage, to present facts on various international platforms through legal, political, scientific and information mechanisms for the purpose of prevention and the application of sanctions," Artak Beglaryan said. Taking into account Azerbaijan's state policy of cultural genocide in the occupied territories, as well as its consistent activities of concealment, distortion and misappropriation of cultural heritage, the State Minister stressed that the Council is expected to carry out extensive and coordinated work.
